The Power of Clarity

Think about the last decision you had to make.


Not just any decision, but one that held a bit of weight—even if it was only choosing what to eat for dinner. How did it feel?


Did you embrace the choice, confidently owning your decision, or did you pass it off to someone else, skirting the responsibility to avoid the discomfort of indecision?


Maybe it was a minor decision, like what to watch on TV.


You know the routine:

“What do you want to watch?” “I don’t know…what do you want to watch?” “It doesn’t matter to me!”


We volley the choice back and forth like a game of hot potato.


It seems harmless enough but think about this habit: each time we push a decision away, we disconnect from our own inner clarity. It’s as though, piece by piece, we lose touch with the inner voice that knows what we want.


And the more we silence that voice, the harder it becomes to hear it when we need it most.


When the Choice Becomes Critical


I can remember the events of that night; I found myself face-to-face with a decision that carried more weight than take-out or movies.


A storm rolled through our area, bringing high winds that whispered warnings of potential danger.


Memories of last winter’s SNOWMAGGEDON flashed back—trees snapping, power failing, the uncertainty of survival in our forest-surrounded home. That storm left its mark on me, a heightened sense of awareness of how life can shift in an instant.


So, as the wind howled, my husband asked, “What do you want to do? Do you feel safe staying here, or should we go stay with family in the city?”


I took a deep breath, feeling both my comfort in staying and his quiet anxiety. I could feel the safety of our house, tucked against the hill, the wind’s direction reassuring me that the trees around us would hold steady.


I felt a strange peace, trusting that everything would be okay. But still, I could sense my husband’s uncertainty, and I realized he was waiting for me to make the call. I could see it in his eyes—a desire for clarity, for certainty in this storm.


The Importance of Trusting Your Inner Compass


As we went back and forth, I felt the familiar frustration of indecision bubbling up. I had my answer, but he was hesitant.


The lack of clarity created a subtle tension, an unspoken “what if.”


In the end, I made the decision to go into town. But the experience stayed with me, lingering in my thoughts the next morning.


Why do we hesitate when making decisions that matter?

Why do we so often pass off responsibility, or let our inner voice get buried under layers of doubt and confusion?


The answer may be simple: we’ve lost trust in our own clarity. We’ve conditioned ourselves to believe that not knowing is safer than deciding.


Reclaiming Your Power to Choose


Clarity isn’t just a luxury; it’s a life skill. In moments where decisions must be made quickly—where hesitation can mean the difference between calm and chaos—it’s invaluable.


When you have a clear sense of what feels right, you’re empowered to act. And that power, that confidence, is something you can cultivate.


It begins with learning to trust yourself and practicing alignment with your inner “yes” or “no.”


Imagine this: next time you’re faced with a decision, take a moment to pause.

Instead of volleying the choice back to someone else, sit with it.

Close your eyes, breathe, and feel into your body.


What does a “yes” feel like? Does it feel expansive, energizing?

What does a “no” feel like? Does it tighten your chest or pull your energy down? Your body will give you clues. All you have to do is listen.


A Practice for Finding Clarity in Any Moment

  3. Trust the Feeling: Honor whatever answer arises. Even if it’s subtle or unexpected, trust it. Sometimes our clarity comes not from thinking but from feeling.


  4. Take Action: Once you’ve sensed a clear answer, act on it. Whether it’s a simple choice or a life-altering decision, commit to it fully, knowing you’ve tuned into your inner wisdom.
